PACK 876 PINEWOOD DERBY RULES |
1. All cars must pass inspection for qualify for the race. The inspection points areas follows:
a. The car must have been made during the current year of the race.
b. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.
c. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
d. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces.
e. Axles, wheels, and body wood shall be as provided in the kit.
f. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are not allowed.
g. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs.
h. Any details added must be within length, width, and weight limits.
i. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
j. No loose materials of any kind (such as lead shot) are allowed in the car.
k. The official number must be clearly marked or visible on both sides of the car.
2. The car will be weighed and registered before each heat. Once weighed and registered, the car is kept by the weighing judge until the start of the race. At the start of the race, a race official will carry the cars that will be in that race to the official starter.
3. Each heat will be announced. Drivers will report to the starting line when their name is called and place their cars on the track. All other people must remain seated around the race area.
4. The starter will make sure the cars are on the track properly and then will start the race.
5. The two line judges will report to the started the outcome of each race. The starter in turn will provide the status board judge with the results.
6. The car whose nose is over the finish line first is the winner. Each car will race both tracks to eliminate any disadvantages between a slow or fast track.
7. When the results of each heat are recorded, the drivers will take leave of their cars with the starter until the heat is completed.
8. The Cub Scout does not have to be present to race, but must be present for the weight-in and registration. A stand-in must be designated by the Cub Scout to race his car.
9. Speed Competition will be a Double Elimination. Two loses and the car is eliminated. Cars will be assigned to lanes randomly. In case of a dispute, a decision by the DERBY RACE OFFICIALS will be made
on the spot and will be final. In addition to the rules included with your Pinewood Derby car, these rules will also apply.
10. The winners from each of the ranks will race against each other to determine
a First, Second and Third place winner overall.
